God’s Medicine
Proverbs 4: [ 20-22 ]
20. My son, give attention to my words: Incline your ear to my sayings.
21. Do not let them depart from your eyes: Keep them in the midst of your heart.
22. For they are life to those who find them. And health to all their flesh.
The Choice of Life and Death
Deuteronomy 30-[ 11-19]
11. For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off.
12. It is not in heaven, that you should say, “Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?
13. Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us. That we may hear it and do it?
14. “But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
16. “in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.
17. But if you turn away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them.
18. “I announce to you today that you shall surely perish: you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess“.
19. “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursing: therefore choose life that both you and your descendents may live.
According to the Word of God, life doesn’t just happen, and were not a product of circumstances. We’re not a product of the past or even of what’s going on now. We are a product of the choices we make now. God sets before each of us the ability to choose a blessing or to choose a curse. We have a choice, to choose life or walk in death, and God said whatever we choose will be recorded. [ Deut. 30-19 ]
To be honest, I would like to believe the story of Jesus’ redemption: that He beat the devil and became poor that through His poverty, I might become rich: the chastisement of my peace was upon Him: by His stripes, I am healed…..I don’t have to do anything but sit here, and it will fall on me one day. The problem with that, it’s is just not true. Yes, Jesus did all those things but unless I obey the Word of God, I’ll never get any of it. He said, “ I set before You the ability to choose what you want to happen to you.” [ Deut. 30-15 ]
Laws
Deuteronomy 30-11
11. For this commandment which I command you today, is not too mysterious for you. Nor is it far off.
What is a commandment? A commandment is a law. In other words he is saying “for this law that I have set in motion before you today.” A law works. There are spiritual laws and natural laws. Like the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, which supersedes the Law of Sin and Death. There are also natural laws like the law of gravity. What goes up will come down. You will not override that law. The secret things belong unto the Lord our God; but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. [ Deut. 29-29 ]
God revealed His laws to us in His word. They are not secret. He wants us to know them so we can live in His blessings and not live under a curse. If we break the laws, we may have lots of good wishes, but not results.
